About the Laboratory

Bionanolab, led by Assoc. Prof. Ceyda Öksel Karakuş, conducts scientific research on the synthesis, characterization, and investigation of the potential toxicity of polymeric, metallic, ceramic, and plastic-based nano and micro advanced materials, with a focus on their biomedical applications.

Our lab develops computational cytotoxicity models using machine learning algorithms based on literature and experimental data to ensure that the materials are produced as safely as possible for their intended uses. These models are experimentally tested and optimized using statistical experimental design (Design of Experiment, DoE) methodologies.

In addition to DoE approaches, our team integrates microchip technologies in the production of advanced materials to enhance optimization efforts. This approach allows for the screening of a large number of parameters while aiming to reduce the chemicals and energy used in the synthesis process, thereby supporting more environmentally friendly production practices.
