Dr. Ozcivici completed his undergraduate degree at Dokuz Eylul University, Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2002. He received his M.Sc. from Stony Brook University Department of Mechanical Engineering through his work on mechanics of advanced ceramic materials for space applications. Dr. Ozcivici received his Ph.D. in 2009 from Stony Brook University Department of Biomedical Engineering at the laboratory of Professor Stefan Judex working on bone mechanosensitivity. After post-doctoral studies in Massachusetts General Hospital Dr. Ozcivici started as a faculty in Department Of Mechanical Engineering in Izmir Institute of Technology in 2010. Dr. Ozcivici is one of the founding members of Department of Bioengineering in Izmir Institute of Technology founded in 2015. In 2016 Dr. Ozcivici was granted associate degree by the Interuniversity Council of Turkey.
The Ozcivici laboratory is mainly interested in the mechanobiology, how cells, healthy or diseased, tune to external mechanical loads or lack thereof. Current projects focus on the bone marrow stem cells, breast cancer and weightlessness.
